An addition is a small construction project attached to a house you're living in. Zoning setbacks, flood-zone elevation, foundation type, tying into the existing roof and floor, and matching the siding all get decided before the first proposal — or they get decided expensively later.

What a New Jersey home addition typically includes
- Zoning review, survey and variance guidance where lot coverage or setbacks are tight
- Design and sealed plans; structural engineering for beams, headers and foundations
- Foundation (crawl space, slab or pilings in flood zones), framing, roofing and siding tie-ins
- Electrical, plumbing and HVAC extended or added to serve the new space
- Insulation, drywall, flooring, trim and finishes matched to the existing home
- Permits, inspections and the final certificate through your municipality
Family rooms, primary suites, in-law suites and bump-outs
The most common additions we see in Ocean County are rear family rooms opening to the kitchen, first-floor primary suites, in-law or multigenerational suites with their own bath, and modest bump-outs that fix a cramped kitchen. If you need a whole second story, see Add-a-Level.
Because the scope is written before pricing, the proposals you compare all include the same foundation, framing, mechanicals and finishes — the differences you see are real differences in experience, schedule and warranty.
How it works with Remodeling Network
Every request is read by a real person. We start by helping you turn what you want into a clear, written scope — the work, the materials, the allowances, the permits and the warranty — so you know exactly what you're buying before anyone prices it.
From there, we either build the project ourselves or introduce you to licensed, insured New Jersey contractors from our network who price that same scope. You compare the proposals apples to apples, and you make the final decision. We never choose for you.
Serving Ocean County and all of New Jersey
Remodeling Network LLC is based in Little Egg Harbor Township and works throughout Ocean County — Tuckerton, Manahawkin, Stafford, Barnegat, Forked River, Toms River, Brick, Jackson and Long Beach Island — as well as Atlantic, Burlington and Monmouth counties and the rest of New Jersey. Many Shore-area lots sit in FEMA flood zones, where foundation type and finished-floor elevation drive the design — we address that in the scope, not after plans are drawn.
Home addition FAQs
How long does a home addition take?
Plan on two to four months of construction for a typical single-room addition after permits are issued, longer for multi-room or two-story work. Plan approval and permitting add several weeks up front.
Do I need an architect for an addition in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires sealed plans for most additions. Depending on the project, that may be an architect or a licensed engineer — your scope will spell out what your town requires.
Is an addition cheaper than moving?
Often, once you account for closing costs, moving expenses and current interest rates — and you keep the location, schools and neighbors. We'll help you compare realistically before you commit.
